Workshop on Developing

a Successful ESL/FL program

January 31 and February 1, 2008

Presenters: Berty Segal Cook- An ESL/Foreign Language Teacher Trainer from California for over 23 years This2-day seminar will cover  on day one - a thorough understanding of the foundation of a successful ESL or FL program with Communicative Competence as its goal, using TPR [Total Physical Response]  on day 2 - how to transition from listening comprehension to speaking, reading and writing activities.

 Please arrive at 7:15 to find a place. Parking is terrible unless you arrive early.  Passes will be at registration.  You may just take them back and put them in your car window.  Pick up books

  Don’t park in metered places unless you plan to pay.  We cannot annul tickets from the city.

Workshop begins

8:00-12:00

 

 

(two 10 minute breaks)

Introduction to rational and research behind language acquisition techniques. Important information for administrators to have for selecting an ESL/FL program. Followed by demonstration with participants.   Highly experiential and beneficial for all grade level teachers.

 

12:00-1:00

 

lunch break   

1:00- 3:30

 

(15 minute break) 

 Lesson planning and how to approach grammar and pronunciation  when transitioning from listening to speaking, reading, and writing skills. The pattern for the 2 days will be sensitivity through experience (right brain)  followed by analysis, knowing the techniques are research based (left brain)

Registration: This workshop is Sponsored by Dr. Kaylene Gebert, Vice Provost of MTSU and the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. Seating is limited, and places must be reserved on a first-come/first-serve basis. Cost: $250 per person.  This includes both workshops, your books for the Berty Segal workshop  and lunches for 2 days
