June, 2008: Jump start your understanding of a new language by
experiencing a 5 day intensive class taught with new, brain-friendly
language acquisition methods, TPR [Total Physical Response] and TPRS
[Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling]. Developed by
psychologist Dr. James J. Asher, and Spanish teacher Blaine Ray, these
methods are currently being used at MTSU's Center for Accelerated Language
Acquisition [CALA] which will be held at the University School of Nashville
the last two weeks of June. Enjoy yourself while learning the language of
your choice.

June 18 - 29, 2007: Learn Spanish or Chinese at the Fifth
Annual MTSU Summer Language Institute at University School of Nashville,
June 2007. Workshop is intended for nine-year old children to adults,
using TPR / TPRS, a highly effective language acquisition method.

Feb. 9-11, 2006: 3 Day workshop on "How to
Develop a successful ESL/FL Program" This workshop will feature speakers
Berty Segal from California (day 1,2) and Beth Skelton from Colorado (day
3). Participants will see how to approach complete beginners with TPR as
well as how to use content teaching with more advanced students using TPRS.

June 20-24, 2005: Summer Language Institute Regular session in Spanish,
French, German, Russian, and Mandarin. This is a 5 day intensive language
training course that lasts 5 hours a day using the TPRS (Total Physical
Response Storytelling) method. Five languages will be offered in June, 2005.
Spanish will be taught by Michael Thompson and Viviana Niehoff, French will
be taught by Sarah Moran and Donna Tatum, German will be taught by Beth
Skelton and Rob Williams, Mandarin will be taught by Dr. Yuehua Zang and her
associate, and Russian will be taught by Katya Paukova. For more

May 14, 2005: Swedish Demonstration Lesson - Experience the Student
Perspective. This workshop is being sponsored by the Dean of Graduate

March 26th at 4:00 p.m. at the Alumni Center. The theme this year will be

Tennessee State University is sponsoring an in-service training to FL and ESL
teachers and administrators K-university. Please visit this

April 16 and 17, 2002: The Pre-Departure Study Abroad Orientation
for all MTSU students
traveling abroad is scheduled for April 16 (Tuesday) from 12:00 - 2:00 and April 17 (Wednesday) from 1:30 - 3:30. Both sessions will be held
in KUC 322. Students only need to attend one session (you may also attend if you wish). The sessions are mandatory for students (for
insurance reasons) - and any student not attending must contact Dr.
Richard Pace for a make-up session.
At the orientation we will collect the study abroad forms (registration, medical history, medical surrogacy, proof of insurance,
waiver of liability, and program contract). These forms must be completed in full or the student will not be allowed
to travel as part of a MTSU program (again for insurance and liability reasons).
