Located in the
Lower-Normandy region of France, the beautiful city of Caen is home to nearly
115, 000 residents.
|
Who May Apply?
- Students of MTSU in any major or minor
- Must have a minimum of two semesters of
university-level French ( or equivalent) (Four for the Internship)
- Preference given to advanced French students
- Must have a GPA of C or better and be in good
academic standing
- Be a responsible, mature person who adapts easily to
new situations
When Will I Leave?
- The program is for the 2010-2011 school year
- Preference given to students staying for two semesters
- Students staying one semester will study in Caen
- Students staying two semesters may spend the second
semester in Caen or opt for 10-week business internship in Cherbourg
What Will I Do?
- Take immersion French courses, written and oral
expression (determined according to Placement Test only)
- Advanced students may take courses in French
contemporary culture, Europe, Art, Communication & Media, Business
French, etc.
- Live on campus in an International Dorm (Caen) or in a host family (Cherbourg).
Students may stay with a family in Caen for a small extra fee.
- Second semester option in Caen features the
possibility of teaching
English for 7 hours/week to French secondary students
- Second semester option in Cherbourg features an
internship in a business matched to your interests and major
What Will It Cost Per
Semester?
Yes!
Your usual Financial Aid applies:
- MTSU tuition for 12 credit hours of French
- One semester of MTSU dorm fee (Residence Hall, shared
bedroom);
- One semester of the 10 meal plan plus $350 Dining
Dollars plus funds for weekend meals;
- Deposit of $350 to be refunded upon successful completion of
Study Contract;
- Study Abroad Program Fee and International Student
Identity Card;
- Passport and visa fees;
- Travel to Caen and bus tickets in Caen; health insurance
and residence permit fees;
- International plan for your cell phone

- Before you leave, you set up a Study Contract with
Dr. Goldberg
- Credits are earned according to results on final
exams in France
- Students may arrange before departure to take 4000 literature classes
electronically with an MTSU French professor
How Do I Apply?
- Fill out the application
- Write a letter of intent IN FRENCH, including
specific hopes as to how this program could help you
- Submit a current resume with photo and a transcript
(unofficial)
- Two letters of recommendation that address your
maturity and ability to adapt to new situations
Submit all these in hard copy, and the letter and resume
on diskette to
